Linked Production Research and Planning

Film pitch
An ex-convict is imprisoned due to an illegal race which ended in the death of his competitor, upon his release from prison it doesn’t take him long to return to what he did best, illegally street race with his crew to maintain he’s reputation as the fastest. Inside the prison he falls in love with the new prison guard; as she understands he’s racing again she chases him down telling him to stop racing in order for them to be together. However, the only way to stop this is by racing as they understand that she has a racing background and her brother was killed in a street race, they both race… however there is a twist as she attempts to get revenge on him by trying to cause him to crash as her brother was killed in the race by a fatal crash against him which led to his imprisonment.

This story will be told in a voiceover in the trailer.

Trailers genre- action/thriller
  • Fast paced, jump cuts, there is a climax in the music- parallel

Examples-
  •  Fast and furious
  • Skyfall
  • Rush

From these films we can borrow key ideas such as what scenes we can add and how to raise the intensity of the film trailer. Also some of the trailers have the use of text and voiceovers which could prove to be useful as we are looking to incorporate both of those concepts into our trailer.

Project schedule:
Film on weekends and after school.
Editing: after we have every shot we need we will edit it with a selection of possible soundtracks we have found.

Mise en scene
Props:
  • Gun
  • 2 cars

Locations:
  • Motorway?
  • Empty roads
  • In a house
  • Racetrack
  • Wembley

Costumes:
  • Girl - casual
  • Boy - casual

critical investigation feedback

WWW: Some fantastic quotes and a strong central argument gives you plenty to build on here

EBI:

  •  Organisation and presentation- topic sentences are weak and this really reduces the impact of the essay
  • need to introduce quotes properly  and ensure you analyse/ discuss their context.
  • Research isnt good enough for top level: need more books, journals and media theories.
  • You need to mention the other side of the argument- a few examples of male dominated films.
  • Notable errors Gravity did not make $4 billion on its own.
  • Need more footnotes : 30 plus
  • NDM section is weak. could add so much more in terms of feminism (this would give you more media theory too)

Mark: 28

  1. I need to include more quotes from books, journals and magazines and make sure they all link by explaining them in the right context.
  2. Add more of media debates and theories such as feminism.
  3. I could include more examples of film, even the opposite of my critical investigation such as films with dominant males and how successful they were.
  4. Present the essay better than what it is, make each topic clear.
  5. Focus on the question after every paragraph.

Teacher Feedback

The Godfather Trailer:
  • Incredibly ambitious recreation - very tough.
  • Agree with criticisms: Setting, Lighting, Sound, all weaknesses.
  • Costume, Framing, and editing reasonably solid.
  • Lacking professional finish - significantly so.
  • Lessons to be learned across the board.

preliminary recreation questions

  1. We chose the Godfather trailer to recreate as we are planning to make a trailer for our final production and the Godfather represents a dominant role for males being strong and ruthless. This is what we plan to create in our final production, instead with a strong female role. The genre also links as we might produce a gangster/thriller/action trailer.
  2. The difficulties faced were the time period as we did not have enough time to shoot and edit this trailer, our editing was also quite intense as there is a lot of editing that goes into a trailer compared with recreating any 30 second speaking scene in a movie. Another difficulty was the lighting as we could not shoot in the day time.
  3. The strengths of the production were the acting, props, costume and editing which was reasonably good for one days of work.
  4. We would improve on the lighting and setting.
  5. A lesson that we'll take is that we shouldn't rush.
